S (Scripture) – Psalm 9:9-10 “The LORD also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble; and those who know Your name will put their trust in You, for You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.”
O (Observation) – Father in heaven, so many events have occurred over the last few months in my life and in the lives of those I care about deeply. Wonderful things, tragic things, monumental days mixed in with the other days. If someone were to attempt to go through this life without knowing Your name, putting their trust in You, and taking the time to seek You each day, it is easy for me to see how the weight of circumstances encountered would crush them. Ecclesiastes is a tribute to the reflection and realization that this life, apart from You, is meaningless. BUT – You have not forsaken those who seek You. You are with us, within us, go before us, surround us as a shield, and goodness and mercy follow after us.
A (Application) – A stronghold is “a place that has been fortified so as to protect it against attack.” It is fair to say that many circumstances we face are direct attacks from the pit of hell. The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) and with that promise comes the realization that every act in the natural world stems from the root of a spiritual component. When we are facing adversity, we must recognize the origin of it is inherently spiritual. 2 Corinthians 10:4 promises us that every spiritual weapon we need has already been given to us by You. We must rely on You alone to win our battles for us as we walk by faith in Your promises.
P (Prayer) – So many battles are going on each and every day in our own lives, our family’s lives, our city, state, nation, and world…it all starts within ourselves and how we respond to the leading of Your Holy Spirit. Father, lead me by Your Spirit into all truth and help me to be a light shining brightly and pointing others to know Your name so that they might experience the power and peace that can only come from knowing that they know that YOU are their stronghold in times of trouble. “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You (Isaiah 26:3 NLT).”
